Student Life (SJC Long Island)



Office of the Vice President for Student Life

The Office works collaboratively with all members of the College community to create an environment where students can learn and develop to their fullest potential through a broad range of co-curricular, extracurricular and service oriented experiences.  The Vice President for Student Life assists students in attaining their goals and becoming good citizens and leaders.

Center for Student Involvement, Leadership and Multicultural Programming

The Center works closely with students in overseeing the Student Government Association (SGA), the Campus Activities Board (CAB), Greek Life, and over forty academic, athletic, faith-based, and service awareness student clubs.  The Center assists students in producing college-wide, on-campus events including Welcome Back BBQ, Talent Show, Fall Fest, Drive-In Movie Night, Spring Fling, and Safe Halloween; and they collaborate with community partners in sponsoring Relay for Life, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Mentoring Program and the bi-annual Blood Drive.   The Center is responsible for all New Student and Parent Orientations and the First-Year Experience and Evolve Leadership Programs.

The Center is responsible for fostering a campus community of inclusiveness regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender or sexual orientation through college-wide programs, interactive workshops and events that educate and empower students and the larger campus community.

Counseling and Wellness Services

Free and confidential services are offered to all students which includes traditional individual and group therapy and support groups, and alternative and complimentary services that include mindfulness meditation training, yoga therapy and energy medicine treatments.  Services also include outreach, crisis intervention and faculty and staff consultation.

Student Health Services

Basic first aid, emergency response to on-campus injuries and accidents, health screenings, and referrals are provided free to all students.

Office of Career Development and Engagement

The Office assists students through education and individualized counseling in all phases of career exploration and preparation, internship placement, and job search strategies.  The Office assists students who are undecided about their major, who have internship requirements and who desire to attend graduate or professional school after graduation.     

Campus Ministry

The Office provides opportunities for students, along with faculty and staff, to serve local communities and communities abroad, in a variety of ways that instill and foster social responsibility and unselfish citizenship.  Students learn respect and dignity for others through service at soup kitchens, shelters, and working with families in impoverished communities.   The Office sponsors a variety of programs and events including Alternative Winter and Spring-Break trips, St. Joseph’s Day, Thanksgiving food distribution to needy families, and the Christmas Toy Drive to children in need.

 Office of Student Accessibility Services

The Office provides support and accommodations for students in compliance with the American Disabilities Act (ADA).

Additionally, the Office sponsors PASS (Program for Access and Student Success), a fee-based, comprehensive and individualized learning program that provides additional support in the areas of anxiety management, academic writing, research, study, and transition skills development.
