COM 170 - Impacts of Computers Computers have significantly changed all areas of society. Students in this course will focus on three areas which have experienced positive or negative impacts: culture, social interaction and legal and ethical behavior. Culture shapes the ways in which people interact with computers and computers influence culture, including belief systems, language, relationships and technology. Computing influences social interaction and impacts ways in which people connect, communicate information, and express ideas. Since the safety and security of individuals rely on their legal and ethical behavior, students will learn the fundamentals of cybersecurity, digital citizenship and the appropriate use of digital media. Students will consider various technology career paths and will design a project to evaluate the effectiveness of a particular technology in terms of its appropriateness, ease of use, accessibility and security.
