CS 424 - Special Education Student Teaching


Supervised practice student teaching in early childhood and childhood self-contained, special education classes, inclusive classes, or resource rooms, arranged to meet the requirements of the initial certificates for Students with Disabilities: Early Childhood (Classroom placement in grades 1, 2 or 3) and Childhood (classroom placement in grades 4, 5 or 6). Opportunities are provided for reflection and demonstration of adaptive teaching procedures and the design of materials to meet special learning, behavioral and cultural needs. Required weekly seminars. This course satisfies the core requirement for SJNY Learning Communities Integrated Learning Area. (GPA of 2.8 or higher required for a student to be recommended for New York State Certification.) Approval of Recommendations Committee.

One full semester in the special education classroom (equaling 5 full days a week). 35 full days in grades 1, 2 or 3 and 35 full days in grades 4, 5 or 6.
