CSA 542 - Thesis Research

Thesis Research is the continuation of CSA541 Advanced Research Methods in Autism. In CSA541, students identify a research topic utilizing single subject research design methodology with individuals affected by autism (i.e., autistic people, their parents, caregivers, teachers, etc.).

Based on the research proposal created in CSA541, students will seek IRB approval and carry out a research study under the mentorship of their thesis chair. This person will be their nstructor for CSA542; however, the student may propose another faculty member to serve as
their chair, likely due to a particular expertise. This person will need to be approved by the CSA542 Instructor/Thesis Chair.

Thesis students are expected to have a 3-person committee comprised of the Thesis Chair and two other readers. Students will be expected to submit their completed manuscripts to their Thesis Chair for approval prior to sending to the remaining committee members.
Students will present their findings to the Thesis Committee who will vote to determine if the student passes CSA542. The approved thesis will be submitted to the St. Joseph’s University Library. In most cases,
thesis committee chairs will be LBAs/BCBAs or ABA faculty, and additional readers will be other full time and adjunct ABA faculty members with whom the students have an existing relationship; however, committee members may be from any program, department, or other outside ABA programs should they have relevant expertise.

By the completion of this course, students will have a complete research manuscript approved by all committee members that is suitable for publication in an academic journal and/or presentation at a professional conference.
