ART 175 - Introduction to Video Art

The course offers an in-depth exploration of video as an artistic medium, focusing on its unique language, techniques, and expressive potential. Students will examine foundational and experimental approaches to video art in its short history, examining examples of canonical video artists and artworks in the field, including those who broach topics such as visual storytelling, non-linear narratives, time manipulation, video art installation, and collage filmmaking. Through hands-on weekly-projects, screenings, and critiques, students will learn to use video to explore personal, and art themes, preparing their work for presentation in a final screening and exhibition setting.
