Major Requirements
Students who attain a minimum grade of C in BIO 150 and BIO 151 may elect a major in the department. Continuation as a major depends on maintaining a minimum grade of C in each course required for the major.
BIO 151 is a prerequisite for advanced courses in Biology.
Biology majors are required to take 36 credits in Biology (BIO 160 ,BIO 161 , BIO 165 and BIO 331 can not be applied to the major.)
All Biology majors are required to take at least two 400 level courses in addition to BIO 480
Biology courses, and courses required for the biology major, MUST be taken at St. Joseph’s College. Any courses taken at other institutions must receive prior departmental approval to be offered for the major. Students who have to repeat a course for the major, more than twice, may not be granted permission from the Chairperson. The Senior Research Requirement
The senior research requirement may be satisfied during the summer after BIO 380 by participation in nationally recognized competitive research programs for undergraduates. Criteria for acceptance are:
- submission of a research paper
- written evaluation from the research adviser at the institution attended
- approval of the Chairperson and Academic Dean
