Industrial-organizational (I-O) psychology is the scientific study of the workplace. Rigor and methods of psychology are applied to issues of critical relevance to business, including talent management, coaching, assessment, selection, training, organizational development, performance, and work-life balance.

Individuals with expertise in industrial-organizational psychology apply principles of psychology to human resources, administration, management, sales and marketing problems.  Activities may include policy planning, employee testing and selection, training and development and organizational development and analysis.  The Dual Degree program will put our graduates in a unique position to take advantage of a demand for a workforce with such expertise. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the New York Department of Labor, careers drawing on this type of expertise are expected to grow at rates of approximately 10% to 52% through 2022 in New York State, including the New York Metropolitan area.

Students will apply in the last semester of their junior year. Qualified students who are accepted to the 5-year program will then enroll in two graduate courses in the first semester of their senior year and two graduate courses in the second semester of their senior year. These four courses may count as major and/or general elective requirements at the undergraduate level, and incur no extra tuition beyond the regular undergraduate tuition. Upon undergraduate graduation, the student will complete the remaining eight graduate courses for the Graduate degree.  Information about this Graduate degree can be found in the Graduate Digital Catalog.
