Mathematics Adolescence Education, B.A./M.A. Adolescence Education Special Education (SJNY Long Island)

The purpose of the Master of Arts program in Mathematics Education is to prepare students to become accomplished mathematics teachers. In doing so, the program aims to extend the depth and breadth of mathematical skills previously learned on the undergraduate level and to enable teaching professionals to use these expanded skills to motivate and engage a diverse population of students who possess varying cognitive skills and learning styles. The dual degree program in Mathematics Education allows students to earn their Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in just 5 years. Students will save money by allowing up to 12 credits to count towards both degrees. The Master’s degree can then be completed in one summer and one additional academic year..

Students will apply in their junior year.

Applicants must have a minimum 3.3 GPA in mathematics courses.

Qualified students who are accepted to the 5-year program will enroll in four graduate courses in their senior year.

These four courses will count as general electives at the undergraduate level and incur no extra tuition beyond the regular undergraduate tuition. The remaining eight graduate courses will be completed after students have earned their bachelor’s degrees.
