Art, Area of Concentration for Child Study (SJNY Brooklyn and SJNY Long Island)

Area of Concentration For Child Study:

30 credits consisting of 9 credits of art history/theory courses and 21 credits of studio art courses. The college does not offer New York State Certification in Art, but the 30 credits of art courses taken by students in the art concentration program meet NYS requirements and qualify the student to register for the Art Certification Exam. Art History/Theory: 9 Credits

• ART 185 - Art as Communication 3 credits. Required

• Select Two of the following courses:

• ART 101 - Art History/Prehistoric through Medieval 3 credits.
• ART 102 - Art History - Renaissance Through Impressionism 3 credits.
• ART 202 - History of Modern Art 3 credits.
• ART 205 - Art in the Non-Western World 3 credits.
• ART 225 - History of Photography 3 credits.

Studio Art: 21 Credits

• Required:

• ART 143 - 2-Dimensional Design 3 credits.
• ART 183 - Drawing I 3 credits.
• ART 163 - Crafts as an Art Form I 3 credits. This course may be taken for 2 credits with permission.
